The Centre has proposed a higher jail
term and penalty to curb circulation of indecent portrayals of women on social
media and other forms of digital communication. The ministry of women and child
development proposed amendments to widen the scope of Indecent Representation
of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, with violators facing jail terms of up to three
years and a fine of Rs 2 lakh. The bill will be sent for the Cabinet permission.
