SUPREME COURT REFUSED TO STAY AMENDED SC/ST ACT AND SEEKS CENTRE’S REPLY ON PLEAS AGAINST AMENDED SC/ST ACT


The Supreme Court refused to stay the amended Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities Act) passed recently by Parliament restoring the power of police to immediately arrest a person committing an offence under the law but agreed to hear the PILs and issued notice to the Centre to justify the validity of the amendment within six weeks.
