The Supreme Court allowed the entry of women of all ages into
the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple in Kerala. Till now, women in the 10-50 age groups
were denied entry on the ground that they were of menstruating age. The court
termed this centuries-old Hindu religious practice as illegal and
unconstitutional and paved the way for women’s worship at par with men. The
Court said that Right to worship is given to all devotees and there cannot be
any discrimination on the basis of gender.
