CASES MUST BE LIFTED ONLY FOR VALID REASONS

The Andhra Pradesh government has not only withdrawn 23 cases against ministers, MLAs and party leaders on charges as serious as molestation and attempt to murder, but has also closed cases of murder, and those under the Explosive Substances Act, the Arms Act and the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act against others.

SC REJECTS 10-YEAR-OLD RAPE SURVIVOR'S PLEA TO ABORT

A 10-year-old rape victim has been left with no choice but to continue with her pregnancy after a medical panel informed the Supreme Court on Friday that an abortion will endanger both the girl and her 32-week-old foetus.

RIGHT TO PRIVACY NOT FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT: CENTRE TO SUPREME COURT

Attorney General K.K. Venugopal told a nine-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice J.S. Khehar that "India had declined to introduce privacy as fundamental right as is evident from the Constituent Assembly Debates. But now the court is being asked to hold privacy as fundamental right, which should be rejected".

NO ARREST IN 498-A, BEFORE COMMITTEES REPORT SUPREME COURT OF INDIA

During the hearing of the case, counsel appearing for one of commissioned parents brought to the notice of the bench that some of the surrogate mothers have recently given birth to baby girls and the commissioned parents were prepared to take custody of these newborns and the surrogate mothers were also prepared to hand them over to their commissioned parents.

“There is a fundamental right to privacy. But it is a wholly qualified right,” Attorney General K K Venugopal told a nine-judge Constitution Bench headed by Chief Justice of India J S Khehar. He, however, made it clear that the submission was not intended to cover the challenge to Aadhaar, meaning that those challenging it cannot claim that it violates right to privacy.

Gopalakrishna Ronanki, who was awarded All India 3rd rank in Civil Services examination 2016, informed the Hyderabad High Court that the PIL case filed against him was sponsored at the instance of his friends and cousins. “I am ready to produce all the physical disability certificates in original before the court,” he claimed. In this regard, Ronanki filed a counter affidavit pursuant to the court direction on a PIL filed by M Murali Krishna, advocate of the city, seeking directions to the authorities to conduct enquiry in respect of the alleged physically handicapped disability as claimed by Ronanki from Palasa mandal in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh.

BOMBAY HIGH COURT DIRECTS BUILDERS TO MEET JULY 31 RERA REGISTRATION DEADLINE

The Nagpur bench of the Bombay high court on Wednesday directed a group of builders to comply with a July 31 registration deadline under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (Rera), 2016.The court declined to extend the month-end deadline set under the new real estate regulatory law.  Four builders have approached Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court to challenge some provisions of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016. They contend that provisions restricting sale of real estate, opening of escrow account, and registration of existing projects with Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) are unconstitutional.

CENTRE LAUNCHED ‘SHE-BOX’ PORTAL FOR SEXUAL HARASSMENT COMPLAINTS

The Women and Child Development ministry had launched ‘SHe-box’ (sexual harassment electronic box), an online platform to enable women employees to file complaints related to sexual harassment at the workplace. Initially it is applicable to Central government women employees.

HYDERABAD HIGH COURT CLEARED JOBS FOR CHILDREN OF SECOND WIFE

Hyderabad High Court had strike off the orders of the Railway Board rejecting compassionate appointments to the children of the second wife of deceased railway employees, and said that according provision of the Hindu Marriages Act, the children of second wife are legitimate, even though the marriage with second wife is void if the first marriage is legally valid.

PASSPORT APPLICANTS CAN SUBMIT AADHAAR OR PAN CARD AS PROOF OF DATE OF BIRTH

The Central government said that the applicants, who are applying for passport, can submit the Aadhaar or PAN card as the proof for their date of birth. The step was taken to simplify the process of issuing passports.

The Supreme Court wondered why citizens could not share data with state when they were ready to share data with private bodies like Apple to access devices. The Court made this observation while hearing challenge petitions which are filed against Centre’s Aadhaar mandatory scheme stating that it was a violation of citizen’s right to privacy.

HYDERABAD CONSUMER FORUM REJECTED ‘CONSUMER’ CLAIM

The District Consumer forum, Hyderabad III, has rejected a compensation plea for a damaged property on the grounds that the complainant was not a consumer as he planned to use the property for commercial use. Since the complainant wished to give out the property on rent which would be termed as commercial purpose, and hence the complainant is excluded from the definition of ‘consumer’.

UNJUSTIFIABLE DELAY IN FILING A WRIT NOT ACCEPTABLE: HYDERABAD HIGH COURT

The Hyderabad High Court said that a citizen cannot knock on the doors of the court whenever he feels convenient for him though no time limit is prescribed for filing a petition by invoking Article 226 of the Constitution. As no valid reasons assigned or justifiable cause was shown to file a writ petition after 20 years, the court has dismissed a case on ground of delay and laches in invoking the jurisdiction of the court under Article 226.

WHATSAPP FORWARD DOCUMENT IS NOT EVIDENCE: DELHI HIGH COURT

The Delhi High Court said that any document shared on WhatsApp does not qualify as evidence in terms of the Evidence Act, 1872, unless the original is produced. SHE TEAMS ARRESTED 59 OFFENDERS FOR HARASSING WOMEN

The Hyderabad SHE Teams police arrested 59 offenders, including 13 minors, for harassing women. Two of them, one offender, were booked under Criminal Law Amendment Act-2013 (Nirbhaya Act) while two others were slapped with cases under different sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Remaining offenders were counseled and released by the police.

TRS MLA ARRESTED AND RELEASED ON BAIL FOR MISBEHAVING WITH WOMAN DISTRICT COLLECTOR

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party MLA B Shankar Naik was briefly arrested by the police and subsequently released on personal bail in the case relating to his alleged misbehavior with district collector Preeti Meena during the Haritha Haram programme.
