SUPREME COURT SAID REMOVE GENDER-BIAS TO REDUCE ACID ATTACKS

The Supreme Court has said that having stringent laws and enforcement agencies may not be sufficient unless deep-rooted gender bias is removed from the society to reduce acid attack incidents on hapless women. The court made this statement while awarding life sentence to the accused Patra, who raped and thereafter thrown acid on the face of a woman, as Supreme Court faulted the Calcutta High Court for acquitting the main accused patra.
