MARITAL RAPE IS NOT A CRIMINAL OFFENCE, IF GIRLS AGE IS ABOVE 15: SUPREME COURT

The Supreme Court has declared that marital rape cannot be considered a criminal offence, if sexual intercourse is between a man and his wife, above the age of 15, based on the exception in Section 375 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) rape law, and also asked the Centre to provide details of the number of child marriage prohibition officers and prosecutions initiated under the Child Marriage Act in the past three years.
