HYDERABAD HIGH COURT ASKED STAND OF TELANGANA AND ANDHRA PRADESH GOVERNMENTS ON FILM TICKET RATES

The Hyderabad High Court has directed the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states to come out with specific guidelines and class-wise rates for cinema tickets and to place all the details before it in the form of counter affidavits by January 3 next year.

HYDERABAD HIGH COURT DIRECTED ANDHRA PRADESH AND TELANGANA GOVERNMENTS TO TAKE ACTION ON FOOD ADULTERATION

A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court directed the chief secretaries of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments to inform about the steps taken to curb the rampant food adulteration and usage of calcium carbide chemical for artificial ripening of fruits in their respective states and to submit the same before it by Jan 23 next year.

JAIL TERM, FINE FOR THOSE DISTORTING FACTS IN PASSIVE EUTHANASIA CASES: RE-DRAFTED BILL ON THE WITHDRAWAL OF MEDICAL LIFE SUPPORT

In the re-drafted bill on the withdrawal of medical life support, the Union Health Ministry has proposed that the hospitals will have to set up approval committees to vet cases of passive euthanasia and any distortion of facts before such panels may lead to a maximum of 10 years in jail and up to Rs 1 crore as fine, and the panels will also decide on the execution of 'living wills', which are a written statement detailing a patient's desire regarding future medical treatment, including whether to cease it, in circumstances where they are no longer able to express informed consent.

CONCERNED PARTIES WILL HAVE TO APPROACH LOWER COURTS FOR REMEDY BEFORE MOVING TO HIGH COURTS: HYDERABAD HIGH COURT

While dealing with a case filed by a woman, the Hyderabad High Court said that according to Article 226 of the Constitution, the concerned parties will have to approach the lower courts for remedy before moving the appellate courts, and under Article 226 of the Constitution, the High Courts have got powers to issue directions to any person or authority, including any government to deal appropriate cases. The court made this statement as she has not approached the authorities concerned, seeking remedy to her issue.

DEADLINE TO LINK AADHAAR WITH MOBILE SIM, BANK ACCOUNTS AND PAN IS MARCH 31, 2018: SUPREME COURT

The Centre accepted the Supreme Court's suggestion to extend the Aadhaar-mobile phone linkage deadline until March 31, 2018. Earlier, the deadline set by the government was February 6, 2018. Now March 31, 2018 is the new deadline for linking Aadhaar number to bank Accounts, Mobile number, PAN and various benefit schemes.

12 SPECIAL COURTS TO TRY CASES INVOLVING NETAS AS ACCUSED: CENTRE TOLD SUPREME COURT

The Centre has told the Supreme Court that it will set up twelve special courts to speed up trials of MPs and MLAs in the country. The twelve special courts will deal exclusively with cases against 1,581 MPs and MLAS and to dispose them of within a year.

AADHAAR LINKING WITH VARIOUS SERVICES DEADLINE WILL BE EXTENDED TILL MARCH 31, 2018: CENTRE TOLD SUPREME COURT

The Central government told the Supreme Court that it was willing to extend deadline for linking of Aadhaar number to bank accounts, welfare benefit schemes and to other services from December 31, 2017 to March 31, 2018. However the linking of Aadhaar number with Mobile phone numbers would remain unchanged that is February 6, 2018.

REAL ESTATE (DEVELOPMENT AND REGULATION) ACT (RERA) APPLICABLE EVEN TO ONGOING PROJECTS: BOMBAY HIGH COURT

The Bombay High Court has upheld the constitutional validity of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA) and its applicability to on-going projects across states. The RERA law intends to make home buying a transparent and speedy transaction+ with powers of redressal. However, the verdict offered a breather to builders too. It expanded powers under RERA to grant more time in exceptional cases to a builder to complete a project. The additional time is meant to be granted in compelling circumstances on a case-by-case basis.

SPECIAL CHILD-FRIENDLY COURT TO COME UP IN HYDERABAD ‘BAROSA’ CENTRE

Hyderabad’s Bharosa centre will get a new child friendly court in a month. The Hyderabad High Court has accepted the proposal for permitting the designated court at the centre for trial in the cases registered under POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses) Act, opined the city police.

SUPREME COURT TO BEGIN FINAL HEARING ON FEBRUARY 8, 2018 IN RAM JANMABHOOMI- BABRI MASJID TITLE DISPUTE

MADHYA PRADESH ASSEMBLY PASSED BILL AWARDING DEATH PENALTY FOR RAPE OF GIRLS AGED 12 OR LESS

The Madhya Pradesh state become the first state in the country which had unanimously passed a bill awarding death sentence to those found guilty of raping girls aged 12 and below in Assembly. The bill will be sent to the Centre and will need the assent of the President to become a law.

SUPREME COURT TO BEGIN FINAL HEARING IN AYODHYA CASE

The Supreme Court on Tuesday will hear the Ram Janmabhoomi- Babri Masjid title dispute, a day before the 25th anniversary of the demolition of medieval-era structure. A specially constituted Bench are hearing a total of 13 appeals filed against the 2010 judgment of the Allahabad High Court that that directed division of 2.77 acres of land of the disputed Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid site in Ayodhya into three parts among of All India Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and the Lord Ram Lalla.

IMPLEMENT ROAD SAFETY MEASURES TO STOP ROAD ACCIDENTS: SUPREME COURT

The Supreme Court directed states and Union Territories to set up road safety committee in every district by January to take corrective measures to prevent road accidents. These panels will include the superintendent of police, the health officer and representatives of PWD, NHAI and road transport besides a member of civil society.

SUPREME COURT STRIKES DOWN STRINGENT BAIL CONDITION IN MONEY LAUNDERING CASES

Saying that the stringent bail provision under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) as arbitrary and unconstitutional, the Supreme Court struck down Section 45 of the Act, paving the way for accused to get out on bail as per the provision applicable to other offences.

PAY RS 10 LAKH EACH TO 150 STUDENTS FOR ILLEGAL ADMISSIONS: SUPREME COURT DIRECTED MEDICAL COLLEGE

The Supreme Court directed a medical college in Lucknow to grant compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the 150 students it had admitted in the MBBS course without formal permission from the government, and slapped a fine of Rs 25 to the college that to be paid to the Supreme Court registry.

SUPREME COURT ASKED CENTRE TO REPLY ON RECORDING OF PROCEEDINGS

The Supreme Court granted time to the Centre till Friday to respond to the proposal for audio and video recording of all court proceedings. At present there is no recording of the court proceedings.

CANNOT BLOCK ‘BLUE WHALE CHALLENGE GAME: CENTRE TOLD THE SUPREME COURT

The Centre told the Supreme Court that it is not possible to block online games like the ‘Blue Whale Challenge’ as they are not app-based games, and said that game was being communicated by one-to-one communication through encrypted/ secretive communication links. Hence it is difficult to identify, intercept and analyze the contents.

The Supreme Court dismissed a plea to ban public screening of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's movie Padmavati, saying it is premature as the censor board is yet to take a call on the issue and the court could not take over the functions of the statutory body.
