The Uttarakhand High Court has asked police to seize phones
of those caught talking on the mobile phone while driving or riding for a
period of 24 hours, for which the transport department will also issue a
receipt. This is just one of the many stringent measures the court has ordered
to improve road safety in the state. The court also directed the transport
secretary to establish 73 enforcement teams one for each tehsil over and above
the existing teams to enforce the implementation of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
