The Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection and
Rehabilitation) Bill, 2018, was passed by the Lok Sabha to prevent human
trafficking, especially of women and children. The bill provides care,
protection and rehabilitation to the victims of trafficking, to prosecute
offenders and to create a legal, economic and social environment for the
victims. It calls for punishment ranging from 10 years of rigorous imprisonment
and a fine not less than Rs 1 lakh. The Bill proposed establishing a National
Anti-Trafficking Bureau (NATB) for coordinating, monitoring and surveillance of
trafficking cases.
