RELEASE COMPENSATION FUND TO RAPE SURVIVORS: DELHI HIGH COURT TO STATE GOVERNMENT

The Delhi High Court has made it clear it won't tolerate further delay in compensation to reach rape survivors, and ordered immediate disbursal of Rs 15 crore from the Delhi government's fund to the Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) for granting interim compensation to victims of sexual offences.

NO VEHICLE INSURANCE IF DO NOT HAVE VALID POLLUTION UNDER CONTROL (PUC) CERTIFICATE: SUPREME COURT

The Supreme Court directed the Centre to take steps to refuse insurance cover to a vehicle that does not have a valid pollution under control (PUC) certificate, the order was passed after the Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA), pointed out that pollution caused by vehicular emissions remained a huge problem.

MARITAL RAPE IS NOT A CRIMINAL OFFENCE, IF GIRLS AGE IS ABOVE 15: SUPREME COURT

The Supreme Court has declared that marital rape cannot be considered a criminal offence, if sexual intercourse is between a man and his wife, above the age of 15, based on the exception in Section 375 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) rape law, and also asked the Centre to provide details of the number of child marriage prohibition officers and prosecutions initiated under the Child Marriage Act in the past three years.

SUPREME COURT ALLOWED A WOMAN TO ABORT 26-WEEK-OLD FOETUS

The Supreme Court has allowed a woman from Mumbai to abort her 26-week pregnancy relying on the medical report stating that the foetus was without a skull and would not be able to survive.

REPORTER FILED ASSAULT COMPLAINT AGAINST PRINCIPAL

Rahul, a reporter with a vernacular news channel lodged a complaint at the Saidabad police against the principal of Narayana Junior College, Champapet branch, allegeing that she snatched his camera and attacked him, and the principal also filed a counter-complaint. Later both the parties had decided to settle the issue and withdrew their complaints.

SUPREME COURT BENCH TO HEAR AYODHYA DISPUTE CASE

The Supreme Court has constituted a three-judge bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra to hear a batch of petitions challenging the Allahabad High Court judgment that is in the Ayodhya land dispute case from August 11. The Allahabad court’s verdict is that the land be partitioned equally among three parties the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.

TIME FRAME IS MUST FOR SPEEDY TRAIL OF CASES: LAWYERS AND JUDGES

Lawyers and Judges felt that rational (in accordance with reason or logic) and non-mandatory time frames for different type of cases are the only solution for dispensation of speedy justice to the people which is mandated in the Constitution.
