MEDICAL BOARDS PROPOSED TO HEAR ABORTION PLEAS’

The Centre informed the Supreme Court that it has written to States and Union Territories about the court’s suggestion to appoint permanent medical boards to provide women, especially rape survivors, urgent access to medical care and to consider their requests for abortion.

3-FOLD INCREASE IN CHILD ABUSE CASES

The SHE Team's Bharosa centre, which handles cases of crime against women and children, has been reporting an alarmingly high number of child abuse cases. In fact, the number of child abuse cases received by the Centre has shot up to over three times the cases of adult rape. It was set up in May 2016, received 211 cases of child sexual abuse till July this year, the number of adult rape cases was just 61.

SUPREME COURT TO STUDY LIFETIME BAN ON TAINTED POLITICIANS

The Supreme Court on Thursday said it would examine whether lifetime ban could be imposed on convicted persons from contesting Assembly or Parliamentary elections polls and whether such a ban would violate Article 14 of the Constitution.

PRIVATE SCHOOLS MUST PUT FINANCIAL DATA ON WEBSITE: TELANGANA GOVERNMENT

The Telangana Education Department released a government order regarding the introduction of a new website for all private and unaided schools, including those affiliated to the CBSE, ICSE, and Cambridge boards. The order asks schools to enter details of their income and expenditures for the past three years and details of fee structure on the site.

The Supreme Court expressed dismay over the prevalence of the practice of child marriage despite the existence of the Child Marriage Prohibition Act and termed as unfortunate that this was being done mostly at the behest of girl child's parents.

SUPREME COURT ALLOWED WOMAN TO ABORT 25-WEEK FOETUS WITHOUT SKULL

The Supreme Court allowed a woman from Pune district to abort her 25-week fetus, which has no skull development. The verdict observed after a report from the medical board at the BJ Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital in Pune favored termination of pregnancy, saying the baby, if born alive, was unlikely to survive beyond 48 hours.

DATE FOR LINKING AADHAAR WITH PAN IS EXTENDED TO DEC 31, 2917

The Central government extended the deadline for linking Aadhaar and PAN to December 31, 2017 and also give a month's extension to small businesses and professionals to file returns by September 30, 2017.
