SUPREME COURT SAID THAT AADHAAR BASED PROFILING FEARS SERIOUS

The Supreme court expressed concern over private entities being allowed to use the Aadhaar platform. However, the court has praised Aadhaar for providing citizen-centric services and social benefits. The bench said that there some problems with Aadhaar and the government has to explain on it, including how can it be allowed to be used by private entities. We need to see which are the areas of concern and we will examine it.

NO NEED TO SUBMIT VERIFICATION CERTIFICATE TO GET TATKAAL PASSPORT, ONLY AADHAAR DETAILS ARE REQUIRED

Hyderabad Regional Passport Officer, E Vishnu Vardhan Reddy said that people who are applying for passport under the Tatkaal scheme do not have to submit the Group-1 or gazetted officers verification certificate.The applications will be processed upon submission of Aadhaar number or Aadhaar enrollment number, self-declaration as per Annexure-E (Available in passportindia.gov.in), and two out of 12 listed documents which includes Permanent Account Number (PAN) card, Bank or Kisan or Post Office passbook.

HYDERABAD HIGH COURT ASKED DETAILS OF ANDHRA PRADESH POLITICOS WHO ORGANISED COCKFIGHTS

A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court directed the chief secretary and director general of police of Andhra Pradesh state to furnish details before the court with regard to number of public representatives involved in conducting cock-fights and against how many of them cases were registered by the police.

SOON APEX CYBERCRIME COORDINATION CENTRE TO DEAL WITH CYBERCRIME CASES: UNION HOME MINISTRY

To deal with cybercrimes such as financial frauds, circulation of communal and pornographic contents, the Union Home Ministry is planning to set up an apex coordination centre and has asked States to establish a similar mechanism in every district, and released ₹83 crore for setting up of a cyber-forensic training laboratory-cum-training centre for police officials in each State. The funds were given under the Cyber Crime Prevention against Women and Children Scheme.

The Central government has started the video conferencing calls with all registrars general of High Courts every month to evaluate pendency reduction, infrastructure issues and other matters. The centre has taken this decision to justice delivery as high priority.

SEX DETERMINATION RACKET BUSTED, SEVEN PERSONS ARRESTED

Five registered medical practitioners and two others were arrested by the Rachakonda police for doing sex determination tests in a clinic at Yacharam. It is a joint operation by the Rangareddy District Medical and Health officials and Rachakonda police.

HYDERABAD HIGH COURT STAYED GOVERNMENT ORDER NOT TO HIKE SCHOOL FEE, PARENTS WERE ANNOYED ABOUT STAY ORDER

The Hyderabad High Court has given stay against the Telangana state government order. The state government ordered the private schools not to hike the fee for academic year 2018-19. The Hyderabad School Parents Association wants the government to appeal against High Court stay order.

DELHI HIGH COURT DIRECTED ELECTION COMMISSION TO PROBE TELANGANA RASHTRA SAMITI (TRS) ON POLITICAL FUNDING

The Delhi High Court directed the Election Commission of India to examine the law governing techniques used by political parties to raise funds and take a view thereon.  A division bench of the court passed the order in a petition filed by Congress leader and MLA A Revanth Reddy with regard to the fundraising programme of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti last year in the name of Gulabi Coolie or Bangaru Kooli.

BILL AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING ON ANVIL, PRESENT IT IS REVIEWING WITH A COMMITTEE OF GROUP OF MINISTERS

A Bill proposing 10 years punishment for those engaging in human trafficking is on anvil and will be introduced in Parliament shortly. The Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection and Rehabilitation) Bill is currently with a committee of group of ministers. Sunita Krishnan of Prajwala NGO said that 10-year punishment for those engaging in human trafficking is proposed in the Bill, which also includes bonded labour, sexual exploitation, pornography, begging and categorises them as heinous crimes. It will be placed in Parliament after the Group of Ministers clears it.

In an interview to the Times Now channel, the channel asked Mr. Modi about the crisis in the Supreme Court after the four senior-most judges came out to criticise allocation of sensitive cases by the Chief Justice, Mr. Modi said that he think he should stay away from this debate. The government must also stay away. The political parties must also keep out of it, and expressed confidence that the judiciary would sit together to find a solution to its problems.

JUDICIAL RIFT: BIG FOUR MEET CJI DIPAK MISRA, SUGGEST PLAN TO FIX SUPREME COURT CRISIS

The impasse between the top four judges of the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice of India continues. This was the picture that emerged after their second meeting in three days on the invitation of the Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra at his chambers. The meeting with the four dissenting judges, justices J Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, Madan B Lokur and Kurian Joseph, lasted about 15 minutes. They demanded transparency in the allocation of cases and sought a revamp of the administration of the Supreme Court.

AADHAAR MAY CAUSE DEATH OF CITIZENS’ CIVIL RIGHTS, PETITIONER’S LAWYER TELLS SUPREME COURT

CENTRE SEEKS CHANGES IN CRIMINAL PROCEDURE CODE (CRPC), EVIDENCE ACT

The Centre is seeking amendments in certain Sections of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and the Indian Evidence Act to make images and video recordings on cellular phones as also CCTV footages during riots admissible as evidence for effective prosecution of rioters.

SONS AND DAUGHTERS WHO DID NOT TAKE CARE OF THEIR PARENTS WILL BE PUNISHED

IKASA Co-Convener Mr. Puligari Govardhan Reddy in a press meeting said that sons and daughters who leave their parents in old age homes are liable for punishment. According to law sons and daughters who did not take care of their parents or who leave their parents in old age homes will face a fine of Rs. 5000 and a jail term of 3 months.




CELEBRITIES NOW LIABLE FOR PRODUCTS THEY ENDORSE: AMENDED CONSUMER FORUM BILL

The amended Consumer Forum Bill introduced in the Lok Sabha during the Winter Session promises to fight propaganda by ensuring that celebrities who endorse products will be held jointly liable in case of faulty or misleading advertisements. The manufacturers would be fined up to Rs 50 lakh and will have to serve a jail term of five years if the Bill becomes a law. Celebrities will also be banned from endorsing products for a year and further offences would lead to a three-year ban.

TO PROTECT PRIVACY, UIDAI INTRODUCED ‘VIRTUAL ID’ FOR AADHAAR-CARD HOLDERS

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) put in place a two-layer security mechanism to reinforce privacy protection for Aadhaar number holders. It introduced a virtual identification which will be 16 digit number that an Aadhaar card holder can generate from its website and present for various purposes, including SIM verification, instead of sharing the actual 12-digit biometric number.

NATIONAL ANTHEM NOT MANDATORY IN CINEMA HALLS: SUPREME COURT

The Supreme Court on Tuesday said playing of the national anthem in cinema halls is only a directive and not mandatory before the screening of a film. The court left the choice of whether to play the anthem to the discretion of individual cinema hall owners.

RECONSIDER ORDER ON NATIONAL ANTHEM IN CINEMA HALLS: CENTRE TOLD SUPREME COURT

The Centre suggested the Supreme Court to modify its earlier order making it mandatory for cinema halls to play the national anthem before screening a feature film, and said that an inter-ministerial committee has been set up to frame guidelines describing circumstances and occasions on which the National Anthem is to be played or sung.

SUPREME COURT'S CONSTITUTION BENCH TO REVIEW 2013 VERDICT ON SECTION 377 THAT UPHELD PENALIZING GAY SEX

A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court said it would revisit Section 377- that criminalises gay sex between consenting adults. The apex court has also issued notice to the Centre seeking response on a writ petition filed by five members of the LGBT community, who say they live in fear of police because of their natural sexual preferences.

WOMAN IN SAUDI ARABIA APPROACHED THE COURT FOR DIVORCE WITH A STRANGE REASON

A woman in Saudi Arabia has applied for divorce with a strange reason saying that her husband was giving more importance to her than his mother. She said that she did not believe him who does everything for a wife and nothing for his mother. The wife explained to the judge that in future he may change against me and left her as he left his mother now. After hearing her arguments the court granted divorce to the wife.

DON’T HIKE FEES IN SCHOOLS UNTIL FURTHER ORDERS: TELANGANA GOVERNMENT TOLD PRIVATE SCHOOLS

The Telangana state school education department has made it clear that no school in the Telangana state will be allowed to jack up fees for the ensuing academic year 2018-19. The schools have been directed to ‘maintain status quo’ and continue with the fees charged for the 2017-18 academic year till the government takes a decision on implementation of the recommendations of the Prof Tirupati Rao committee report.

HYDERABAD HIGH COURT ALLOWED CINEMA THEATRES IN TELANGANA AND ANDHRA PRADESH TO HIKE TICKET RATES

The Hyderabad High Court permitted the managements of cinema theatres in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to hike ticket rates till governments take a decision on fixing the rates. The court took note of the non-responsive attitude of both state governments regarding the framing of scientific parameters for fixing prices of cinema tickets.

SUPREME COURT ISSUED NOTICE TO STATE GOVERNMENTS AND UNION TERRITORIES ON RIGHTS OF ORPHANED CHILDREN

The Supreme Court sought response of all States and Union Territories on running of orphanages, the mode of adoption and the treatment meted out to children there. The Court issued notice after hearing an appeal of NCPCR against a Calcutta High Court order staying its proceedings in a case related to alleged gross violation of rights of orphaned children in West Bengal.

The Supreme Court sought the response of the Centre, all the states and Union Territories on a PIL seeking effective implementation of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act and the Rules framed under this Act. The Court issued the notice after hearing a plea filed by NGO Initiatives for Inclusion Foundation, and asked the Centre and all states to file responses within four weeks.

TELANGANA POLICE LAUNCHED ‘TSCOP’ MOBILE APP WITH 54 SERVICES

Telangana DGP M. Mahender Reddy launched the ‘TS COP’ mobile application. This App provides 54 services including emergency response-related services, crime prevention-related services, crime detection-related services, investigation-related services, courts & prosecution-related services and other services. The App will first be launched in the Cyberabad and Rachakonda Police Commissionerates and later introduced other Commissionerates and districts units.
