SPECIAL COURTS TO TRIAL OFFENCES COMMITTED AGAINST DISABLED PERSONS

All the states and union territories have to set up special courts in each district within three months to conduct trial for offences committed against disabled persons, directed by the Supreme Court.

POLITICIANS CAN’T REMOVE OR TRANSFER TOP COPS ON THEIR WISH

The Supreme Court said that a senior police officer, who has been granted a fixed tenure, can't be removed or transferred midway on the whims of the executive, and quashed the Kerala government's decision to remove senior IPS officer T P Senkumar as DGP before completion of his two-year tenure.

LAW TO PREVENT TORTURE IN CUSTODY

Stating that there was no law on torture in custody, a bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice D Y Chandrachud said that it is a matter of human rights which is required to be dealt with in extreme urgency and also need to frame an effective law to prevent torture of individuals in custody.

SUPREME COURT CONCERNED ABOUT WOMEN, FOR INCREASING CRIMES AGAINST THEM

The Supreme Court bench has asked why women can’t live in peace in this country, this observation came when a bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra was hearing an appeal filed by a man who was sentenced to seven years imprisonment by the Himachal Pradesh High Court for allegedly teasing and compelling a 16-year-old girl to commit suicide.

BILL TO IMPOSE TOUGH PENALITIES ON TRAFFIC RULES VIOLATIONS

A Bill to amend the Motor Vehicles Act to impose severe penalties on traffic rules violations was passed by the Lok Sabha. In this bill it is also stated that three-year jail term for parents of minors, who caught driving and causing fatal accidents.

COURT SUMMONS VIA WHATSAPP MESSAGING

For the first time in India, a financial Commissioner Court in Haryana has passed an ordered that the summons in a case relating to a partition suit can be served via whatsapp messaging. Till now summoning process in electronic form is prevalent only through e-mail or fax.

AADHAAR CARD MIANDATORY IN INCOME TAX RETURNS

The income tax department unveiled a new tax returns form, which will be effective from April 1st and also said that the tax payers have to mention their Aadhaar card number as well as PAN number during income tax (IT) returns.
